This website, set up by INERIS at the request of the Ministry in charge of the Environment, provides support to economic operators engaged in a substitution approach in order to promote the dissemination and sharing of information.
The website currently offers information provided by companies on the alternatives available for five families of substances, bisphenols, phthalates, alkylphenol ethoxylates, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and persistent, mobile and toxic substances. They are illustrated by concrete applications, also from industrial stakeholders. The presentation of an alternative on this website does not in any way constitute a recommendation or a validation by INERIS of this solution or related information. We also propose a newsletter that summarizes the most recent news that we identified through an active monitoring.
In order to enrich and improve the diversity of information, we encourage you to send your substitution experiences or proposals for alternatives via the Contact section.
This part of the chemicals substitution website provides documentary and methodological resources for substitution. It includes notably the practical and methodological guide that the Ministry in charge of the Environment asked in 2016 INERIS and MEDEF to elaborate, within the framework of the PNSE3. This guide on chemicals substitution is intended to guide businesses in this process, as well as other stakeholders (non-profits) and public authorities that may have reason, in particular, to help them compare different potential alternatives and identify a substitute. This guide is presented as a documented review of all the stages leading to the final qualification of the substitution options.
