The Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment (A4) is a professional association associated with the University of Massachusetts Lowell, whose work addresses the scientific, policy and practical issues associated with the transition to safer chemicals, materials, processes and products. A4 is offering an open webinar on June 28 with the goal of presenting the variety of resources, tools, and techniques available to research and find alternative options. These resources may differ from those typically presented in European contexts.

Bisphenol A, nonylphenol and PFAS are included in the directive on the quality of water intended for human consumption

By 12 January 2026, Member States shall take the measures necessary to ensure that water intended for human consumption complies with the established thresholds for bisphenol A and PFAS. Nonylphenol is included in the watch list of the directive.

Inclusion of three phthalates in Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation

1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, dihexyl ester, branched and linear (CAS No. 68515-50-4), dihexyl phthalate (DnHP CAS No. 84-75-3) and 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C6-10-alkyl esters or mixed decyl and hexyl and octyl diesters with ≥ 0.3% of dihexyl phthalate (CAS No. 68515-51-5; 68648-93-1) have been added to the list of substances subject to authorisation in the REACH Regulation.
